    Enebrales de Punta Umbría Natural Reserve

    It’s located in Punta Umbria municipality and it’s composed by 162 hectares. This is a forest composed mainly of juniper, species in shortage in our coast, as well as many other plant species which are representative of the Mediterranean.

    The site hosts an interesting diversity of fauna, among which is the chameleon, whose range is quite restricted. It’s also possible to find some reptiles and passerine birds among other species.

    Marismas del Odiel Natural Reserve

    Marismas del Odiel are among the municipalities of Gibraleón, Aljaraque, Punta Umbria and Huelva. They result from interaction between Odiel river dynamics and the input of sand of the Atlantic Ocean. This area has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO and hosts the largest breeding colony of spoonbills (Platalea Leucorodia), 30% of european population.

    The Reception and Interpretation Center of Calatilla provides information about land and sea routes for visitors as well as a route network that show a surprising richness of flora and fauna.

    Espacio Natural Doñana

    Llegando desde Matalascañas, al sur, Almonte o Hinojos por el norte, la naturaleza le saluda. Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde 1994 y Reserva de la Biosfera, Doñana nace del equilibrio entre los aportes del río Guadalquivir y el Atlántico, conformando 104.920 has. en las que coexisten tres ecosistemas, marismas, monte bajo y bosque así como el ecosistema dunar. Los centros de interpretación de El Acebrón, La Rocina o El Acebuche prepararán al viajero más interesado para la visita guiada al interior del parque, dependiendo de sus inquietudes y del tiempo disponible.

    Cuentan que una princesa perdida dio su nombre a estos territorios. La leyenda de Doña Ana aún se recita en los perfumados amaneceres del Coto. Pero Doñana no es una coincidencia, ni una suerte del destino. Sentirnos agraciados y orgullosos de este Patrimonio de la Humanidad nada tiene que ver con el azar o la suerte. Fueron sus hombres y mujeres, los doñaneros, gentes de Almonte e Hinojos los primeros en entender las calidades de este espacio, la necesidad de su conservación y el interés por preservarlo para las generaciones futuras.

    Si hacemos caso a la mitología deberíamos remontarnos al mítico lago Ligustino, donde el floreciente Tartessos alzaba sus palacios con paredes de oro. Los equilibrios entre el viento, las corrientes atlánticas y los aportes del río Guadalquivir conforman un espacio tan peculiar como simple. Donde venció el viento crece la duna, donde el agua dulce las lagunas, dónde el mar, la marisma. Sus ecosistemas: marismas, monte bajo, bosque y dunas, acogen una explosión de vida difícilmente descriptible.
